Meet the Team 

Joseph C. Bowman

Managing Attorney

Joe focuses his practice on criminal defense and plaintiff-side personal injury work. In addition, he has significant experience handling traffic cases and DMV hearings.

 

During his time as an assistant district attorney, Joe completed Career Prosecutor school — a skill-building program for experienced prosecutors — administered by the National District Attorneys Association. He also attended Accident Reconstruction School for District Attorneys. 

 

As a defense attorney, Joe has secured many impressive victories for his clients. Examples include a not-guilty verdict for attempted murder in a Buncombe County jury trial, negotiating a self-defense result in a killing by firearm case, and numerous DWI acquittals. He has walked clients out who were facing up to life in prison for serious felonies.

Previous Work

After moving to the east coast in 2003, Joe prosecuted criminal cases for the State of North Carolina. While serving as an assistant district attorney, first in Pitt County (Greenville, NC 2004-06) and later in New Hanover and Pender Counties (Wilmington, NC 2006-14), he prosecuted hundreds of cases involving DWI, domestic violence, and various other misdemeanor crimes, in addition to numerous felonies such as habitual DWI, drug trafficking, rape, kidnapping, white-collar embezzlement and confidence schemes, firearm-related crimes, murder, and more. 

Further, his experience includes training police officers and prosecutors on domestic violence issues, handling legal matters before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and immigration courts, and clerking for the United States Attorney’s Office in Lincoln, Nebraska.

 

 

 

Personal Life

Joe grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He has lived in North Carolina since 2003. In both his work and personal life, Joe is a staunch advocate for the Second Amendment and concealed-carry rights, along with being a supporter of freedom in general. He loves dogs and the great outdoors.
